I’ll admit it – I love chocolate! While chocolate has a whole array of healing properties, sometimes it’s nice to take a break from the sugar and get back to herbal basics. One of my favorite ways to get my chocolate fix with herbal tea is by using carob. Carob is a pod that has a distinct flavor which, to me, is chocolaty and earthy. It’s got natural sweetness and I’ve never met a chocoholic who didn’t love it with the first sip! Today I’m going to introduce you to four really simple herbal tea recipes using carob that will help curb your sweet tooth while giving you the endless benefits that come from working with herbs!
Spicy Carob
This is by far one of my most favorite carob recipes – even when it’t hot outside! This is a really great tea blend both hot and iced, and it’s so exotic tasting that it makes a really fun treat to impress dinner guests.
2 parts Carob, roasted is best
1 part Ginger Root
1 pinch Stevia Leaf
Simple, right?
Blend together to get 1 heaping teaspoon. Steep 1 heaping teaspoon per 8 ounces of hot water for 10 minutes. For the iced version, it’s best to prepare hot then refrigerate to cool.
Mint Chocolatea
This is the most amazing after-dinner treat! It’s minty, spicy, and chocolaty all at once!
2 parts roasted Carob
1 part Peppermint
1 pinch Stevia Leaf
Blend together to create 1 heaping teaspoon of herbs per 8 ounces of water. Steep for 10 minutes.
Carob Citrus Bliss
This is absolutely heavenly, and a wonderful dessert tea!
2 parts roasted Carob
1 part Orange Rind
1 part Rose Hips
1 pinch Lemon Grass
1 pinch Stevia Leaf or a bit of local honey to taste
Blend together to create 1 heaping teaspoon of herbs per 8 ounces of water. Steep for 10 minutes.
Carob Chillout
This blend is soothing and nurturing, and it brings out the earthy side of Carob…
2 parts roasted Carob
2 parts Chamomile
1 part Lavender Flower
Blend together to create 1 heaping teaspoon of herbs per 8 ounces of water. Steep for 10 minutes.
I hope that this post has inspired you to try out Carob for yourself! It can be hard to find really good roasted organic carob, so I’ll share my favorite source with you.
